AFDI - Archive of Research and Documentation Iran e.V.

AFDI is an non profit institution. Its work focuses on providing and categorising documents about the social, political and cultural situation of contemporary Iran and especially about the last two decades of Iranians abroad.
AFDI collects all documents (print, audio, video) about Iran - without considering the political colour - and makes them publicly available.
The destruction of documents has always been tradition in the Iranian history. Due to this destruction and the inaccessibility of the remaining documents, a few people had the possibility to write down the history according their own favour and to falsify events. The destruction and /or inaccessibility of documents led to the situation that all experiences had to be repeated over and over. The preservation of documents and their public access open the possibility to all the people, at the base of the preserved documents, to analyse each event. Preservation of documents makes it more difficult to falsify reality.
We, the members of AFDI have experienced the loss of documents ourselves. Therefore it is our highest aim to prevent further destruction and loss of more documents. We try to preserve as many documents as possible, even though our financial possibilities are limited.
